High Frequency for Acne Treatments
There are a couple of high frequency for acne treatments available. Both destroy the bacteria present in acne, and can help heal existing acne lesions.
One treatment uses Blu-u light on its own, and another uses it in conjunction with levulan ala. The other type uses a laser light to kill bacteria. This one, the Image system, destroys bacteria through heat generated, with side benefits of increased collagen production and reduced pore siZe.
Both high frequency treatments can help heal 70% of moderate acne within 4 to 8 weeks of treatment.
The Blu-u light for acne is not a laser, using blue-violet light in short, 16 minute treatments. Treatments combining blu-u light for acne with levulan ala take a bit longer, as the levulan ala needs time to penetrate the skin. Sessions are twice weekly for the first 4 weeks, then once a week for the next 4 weeks. Blu-u acne treatment with light encourages the body's porpyhrins to get rid of the bacteria present in the acne.
Both high frequency for acne treatments can leave the skin a little red where acne used to be, but this usually goes over time. The treatments can help control acne for 4 to 8 months, after which further sessions may be required. This depends on individual responses of course. Pregnant women can safely use this acne treatment with light, as can people on photosensitive medication.
For some people, these treatments may not be viable. They perhaps don't have the money, or can't make it to the local center. For those wanting an alternative to high frequency for acne that is very effective, including in cases where other treatments have failed, click here.
