GTF Chromium Acne Treatment Discovery

- Or Not?

The claims about gtf chromium acne treatment relate to the fact that a few dermatologists have reported success in treating acne with insulin.

The reasoning is that there may be a link with problems acne sufferers have processing glucose in their bodies, or there is a localized insulin insensitivity in the skin.

Some report that gtf chromium acne treatments helped alleviate their skin condition, but in my research I have not seen that claim well documented. It may be true, but there doesn't appear to be a lot of evidence on the matter.

The Case For GTF Chromium and Acne

Chromium is considered important in the metabolism of carbohydrates. As such, it is often recommended for people with hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, and type 2 diabetes. It is also used by some people trying to lose weight. It is believed to reduce blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels. Yet the studies are at best conflicting - some results reported, some not conclusive. The differences could relate to the type of chromium used, the longevity, or dosage. Or it could simply be that it is not actually beneficial in these areas after all.

Some types of chromium are not recommended. Chromium picolinate can affect the levels of neurotransmitters in the brain. So people who are prone to depression, or have bipolar disease or schizophrenia may have an adverse reaction to supplementation with it. People have taken the gtf chromium acne treatment believing it to be better absorbed by the body, but as indicated below, gtf chromium may not be quite what it seems.

GTF Chromium - A Suprising Twist in The Tale

One article mentions this little reported fact in the annals on gtf chromium. Namely that:

"It was in 1959 that Walter Mertz and his associates seemed to have demonstrated that chromium helped glucose to enter cells body by first converting chromium into a large chemical called glucose tolerance factor. They thought it to be present in foods like brewer's yeast, which they described as superior sources of chromium. It turned out, however, that the process of chemical analysis was creating GTF." (www.mendosa.com)

So, whilst the literature states that gtf chromium was first isolated in brewers yeast, this doesn't appear to be the case. It was the chemical study of it that created gtf chromium.

Bottom Line - On GTF Chromium & GTF Chromium and Acne

The GTF chromium acne treatment doesn't seem to rate highly in terms of current acne research or even chromium research. And the gtf form of chromium is not the naturally occuring molecule it is often presented as. However, chromium supplementation may help - that is something that is best experimented with oneself if feeling drawn to. One form of chromium supplement recommended by Dr Vincent, a leading researcher in the chromium research field, is chromium chloride. But keep in mind this is not a tried and tested acne treatment, and not one to be relied on.

In fact, there are a lot of better, natural alternatives that have lists of testimonials from people they've helped even when prescription treatments have failed. You can read some of the stories of these former acne sufferers here, who found help without dubious gtf chromium acne treatments.
