Acne Facials Made Easy

Acne facials are very popular for people wanting help in managing their acne, and in treating acne scars. As well as in-salon facials, consumers now have the less expensive option of at home treatments that are very effective.

In-salon acne facials can include microdermabrasion treatments, laser treatments, deep pore cleansing that eliminates bacteria, and specialised products or treatments. Microdermabrasion acne facials are done in salon by a doctor, nurse, or skin specialist. Your skin is polished with aluminium hydroxide crystals, and there is little 'down time'. The object is to remove old skin cells, diminish scars, and reduce the appearance of fine lines, as well as hyperpigmentation, freckles and sun spots. Generally, a series of treatments is required, anywhere from 5 to 10.

ClearLight Phototherapy acne facials are designed to treat mild to moderate acne. They use blue light to kill the bacteria that are a factor in active acne.

Jessner's Peel acne facials also work by removing the outer layers of the skin. This uses resorcinol, lactic acid, and salicylic acid to do the job.

Levulan ALA acne facials use a combination of light and Levulan Kerastick (20% aminolevulinic acid - ALA). Its a two step process that involves the levulan being applied to your skin, and allowed to penetrate the skin for about 30 minutes. Clearlight or Blu-U Light, or a similarly approved system, is then used to activate the levulan. This process may result in some redness but the shorter incubation time they now use really minimises this.

In-Home Acne Facials

Microdermabrasion products are readily available, making this a very cost effective home treatment. Instead of spending $80 - $300 per visit, multiplied by 5 to 10, you can now buy microdermabrasion kits for as little as $60 for ten treatments.
