Vitamins Beneficial for Acne - Your Guide

The following is a list of vitamins beneficial for acne.

Vitamin A

  • active ingredient in some acne treatments for severe acne (retinol)
  • found in liver, fish oils like the omega 3, dairy products
  • in plants, the precurosr is beta-carotene
  • found in yellow-orange fruit and vegetables like yams, canteloupe, carrots and apricots
  • also in green vegetables like spinach, kale, and parsley

High doses of vitamin A are toxic. Do not exceed the RDA for your age unless under medical supervision

Vitamin B complex

  • These vitamins beneficial for acne are found in leafy green vegetables, milk, fish, eggs, and whole grains
  • the B vitamins have varied functions
  • B2 can irritate acne, but it can also alleviate stress
  • B3 is reported to reduce cholesterol levels, and has an anti-inflammatory effect on your skin. It improves metabolism and circulation. In some studies it is reported to improve acne
  • B3 is found in avocados, eggs, peanuts, lean meat and liver
  • The B complex group are water soluble vitamins, which means that if you take excess of these vitamins beneficial for acne in supplement form, they will pass out of your body in your urine. The B vitamins work as a team - they need each other. And taking too much of one B vitamin upsets the balance of the whole group. Its best to take a B complex if suppplementing.

Vitamin C

Vitamin e

  • taking supplements (high potency E or HPE), or getting vitamin E from food is believed to have antioxidant properties and may help the skin
